Military Brat Indeed

From 1974 to1976 my dad was stationed at Anderson Air Force Base, Guam. Built in 1944 The 36th Wing provides day-to-day mission support to more than 9,000 military, civilian, dependent and retired personnel and 15 associate units on the base.

What an adventure that was, a lot of history took place at that time:

1975 The movie Jaws was in theater. After it was seen NO One would step foot on the beach for at least 2 weeks.

1975 Operation New Life-With the collapse of South Vietnam, more than 130,000 Southeast Asian refugees were evacuated to the United States. Guam was their first stop. It's amazing how many people can actually be on a C130!

1976- Typhoon Pamela-On May 22, a day after the typhoon struck the island, President Ford declared Guam a major disaster area. In September 1976, the United States Senate passed a bill that included aid for the storm victims. I remember the streets looked like swimming pools and a B52 was literally lifted up, flipped over and laid back down on it's back. That was some storm.
